Fertility Care in Northern Ireland
Every year in Northern Ireland more than 2000 patients seek help from their GP because of difficulty in conceiving. Basic tests can be done in the primary care setting but referral to a gynaecologist or fertility specialist is often required, particularly if the couple have been trying for one year (or less if the female partner is over 35 years old).
NHS waiting lists are long, particularly for assisted reproduction treatments such as IVF and in Northern Ireland couples can wait for one to two years for their one funded cycle of IVF or ICSI.
At Origin we can see patients within a few weeks and there is no waiting list for treatment. We can also perform the basic tests in patients presenting for the first time, if desired.
Origin welcomes direct referrals from General Practitioners and of course the patient can also be referred simultaneously to the NHS so they do not "lose" their funded treatment.
